As we get outside and enjoy the warmer weather, we want to remind you to be on the look out for ticks! Preventing deer tick bites is the best way to prevent lyme disease and this year is predicted to be a bad tick season.

When outdoors:
🔹 Wear tick repellent and long pants tucked into socks
🔹 Avoid wooded/brushy areas with high grass
🔹 Stay on marked trails
🔹 Check your skin and your children’s skin daily for ticks. They like to hide in warm spots like the hairline and skin folds

If you do find a tick, safely remove it by using tweezers to grasp it as close to the skin as possible and pull straight up with steady pressure. Avoid twisting or jerking. Then, clean the bite area and your hands.

IMPORTANT: Try to save the tick (i.e. sealed bag, taped to paper) or take a picture of it for identification. This will help us determine whether or not a course of antibiotics is needed after the bite. Most ticks removed within 36 hours of attachment will not need antibiotics.*
